My Interview with Dawn Wales:
1. What are some good traits/ characteristics a registered nurse should have?
Dawn-” In my opinion I think a registered nurse should be a independent worker but can also work well with a team. A registered nurse should be compassionate, organized, and can work well under pressure.”
My reflection and response- ” I agree with you, I believe to be a good registered nurse someone has to have these qualities.”

Dawn-” A nurse practitioner should be able to take charge when needed. A nurse practitioner should have good communication skills and shouldn’t panic under pressure. They should be independent but at the same time be able to work well in a group.”
My reflection: “A common factor in both being a registered nurse and a nurse practitioner is they should be independent but be able to work well in a group when needed.”
3. To become a registered nurse, what are five colleges that you would recommend me go to?” Dawn-” The first college I would recommend you go to is North Georgia College and State University. The second college is Breanau University. The third college is Georgia Southern University. The fourth college is Emory University. The fifth college is Kennesaw State University. All of these colleges have excellent nursing programs.”
My reflection- ” I have applied to North Georgia College and State University to be in their RN program because I heard they had a really good program.”
4. To become a nurse practitioner, what are five colleges that you would recommend me go to?” Dawn-” The first college I would recommend is Breanu University. The second college is Georgia Southern University. The third college is North Georgia College and State University. The fourth college is Medical College of Georgia. The fifth school is Emory University.” My reflection: “After I become a registered nurse I plan on going back to college to get my nurse practitioner licenses and I have looked into North Georgia’s nursing program.”

Dawn-” To get into the nurse practitioner program you must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a nursing license. To be a nurse practitioner you must have a Masters degree in nursing.” My reflection: ” That is useful information since i’m planning on being a nurse practitioner in the long run.”

Dawn-” To be a registered nurse you have to have at least a associates degree in nursing, which is two year program. A registered nurse can also have a Bachelors degree, which is four year program.”
My reflection-” So I can get my associates degree and get a job as a registered nurse.”
7. Where are five places a registered nurse can work?
Dawn- ” A registered nurse can work at the hospital, public schools, the military, physicians offices, and dialysis centers. A registered nurse has many options where they can work.”
My reflection- ” So basically a registered nurse can work in a variety of places.”
8. Where are five places a nurse practitioner can work?
Dawn-” A nurse practitioner can work in the hospital, the military, multiple minute clinics, physicians offices, and community health centers.”
My reflection-” I didn’t know the military had jobs for registered nurses and nurse practitioners.”
9. What are some of the responsibilities of a registered nurse?
Dawn-” In summary a registered nurse can take vital signs, obtain patient health history, administer medication, and interrupt any patient information.”
My reflection- ” A registered nurse is responsible for some interesting things like administering the medication and taking patients history.”
10. What are some of the responsibilities of a nurse practitioner?
Dawn-” A nurse practitioner is allowed to take patient history. They order lab tests and prescribe medicine to patients. They can physically check patients and assist in surgical care.” My reflection: ” A doctor and a nurse practitioner have a lot in common.”
